Forfar started with an unchanged lineup from Tuesday's CIS Cup victory. Mark Booth kept his place in the midfield and, returning from suspension, Jay Stein had to settle for a place on the bench. Steven Florence dropped out of the squad altogether. Alloa immediately went on the attack and in the third minute were unluck when striker Andy Brown rose unchallenged above the Forfar defence but his header went over the bar. Three minutes later it was Alloa's Ross Hamilton who had a golden opportunity when he connnected with a Richard Walker cross. Hamilton fired in a fierce shot which Michael Brown could only parry in the direction it came from, however Hamilton's second bite at the cherry went well over the bar. Forfar worked hard and got themselves back into the match and Paul Tosh had a chance to open the scoring in the 22nd minute. His well struck 20 yard shot shaved the outside of the posts with Gary McGlynn well beaten. The Loons came close again in the 29th minute when Paul Shields outjumped the Alloa defence to connect with a Tosh cross. However, his header went narrowly over the bar. Shields' miss was the last clear cut chance of the first half. | Paul Tosh - on the double (again!). |
The Loons raced into an early second half lead. A penalty was awarded after Paul Mortimer had fouled David McClune inside the box. Paul Tosh continued his terrific record from the spot by scoring past McGlynn in the Alloa goal.
Soon after David King had a goal chalked off. Forfar's second disallowed goal in as many league games. The Wasps edged their way back into the game and recieved their reward just before the hour mark. Michael Daly managed to find space for a cross and tall centre-forward Andy Brown was on hand to place the ball past Michael Brown from close range. David Lowing conceded a penalty the first time Forfar met Alloa at Recreation Park last season, and history repeated itself on this occasion. Lowing was judged to have fouled Ross Hamilton on his route to goal. Brown Ferguson made no mistake from the spot to send Alloa into the lead. However, the Alloa lead didn't last for long. David Lowing atoned for his error at the other end by racing forward to provide a cross into the penalty area. Paul Tosh was on hand to level the scores and notch his second of the afternoon in the process. Minutes later Forfar completed the late show. Paul tosh cut the ball back to Jay Stein who was on hand to score his first goal for the club and secure the fourth win in succession for the Loons. |
